VRYHEID KZN: Officers robbed at gunpoint, not the police station

Two female officers responded to the scene and spotted the vehicle in the area

UPDATE: Allegedly, this morning (December 1) at 4.30am, a truck driver picked up forestry workers in the Mnyathi area in Hlobane when a bakkie with five people stopped next to it. Four males emerged from the vehicle and at gunpoint robbed the driver of six chainsaws, as well as containers filled with petrol. The suspects fled the scene and Hlobane SAPS were alerted. Two female officers responded to the scene and spotted the vehicle in the area. When the suspects noticed the police officers, they approached them and at gunpoint robbed them of their service pistols before fleeing the scene. One of the officers was hit with the butt of a firearm and sustained injuries to the back of her head. She was taken to hospital for medical attention. Charges of robbery were opened at Hlobane SAPS. Colonel Thembeka Mbele has confirmed that the allegations and rumours of the Hlobane police station being robbed are false.
