NEWCASTLE KZN: Rumours of Dr Josh Matambo’s death are false
WhatsApp messages doing the rounds have suggested that Dr Josh Matambo has passed away.
Last night, a WhatsApp message began circulating in the community, claiming that well-known gynaecologist and obstetrician, Dr Josh Matambo had passed on.
The message reads as follows:
“With great sadness i recieved terrible news that Doctor Josh Matambo formally from Newcastle has passed on. May is wonderful soul rest in peace [sic].”
Mediclinic Newcastle has since issued a statement confirming the rumours are indeed false.
“We are aware of social media postings regarding the current health of Dr Josh Matambo, a respected member of the Mediclinic Newcastle community and current Chairman of the Board of Directors,” said a statement issued by Hospital General Manager, Japie Greyling and Acting Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Dr Mahesh Dhanjee.
“We can confirm that Dr Matambo is currently receiving the best possible medical care. While we appreciate the concern shown by the Newcastle and surrounding communities, we would kindly ask that Dr Matambo and his family’s privacy be respected during this time and that all unsubstantiated rumours be ignored.”
Mediclinic Newcastle said its thoughts and prayers are with Dr Matambo during his time of recuperation and urged the community to join in wishing him well.
