GLENCOE KZN: Never surrender Dave lays down his coaching whistle

Dave's pedigree has seen him serve rugby at the highest level

Dave van der Westhuizen’s mantra for success is not complicated, but difficult to replicate: passion.
“Your competitors can copy your work, your style or your procedures. But none can copy your passion.”

Those were his words at the surprise farewell held for him last Friday as he drew a line under his 14 years of sports coaching which brought unprecedented success on the rugby field for Sarel Cilliers High School.

His fellow sports coaches, staff and friends managed to trick Dave and his wife, Elmarie, into attending the farewell at the Blue Lion Clubhouse at the school
Dave’s pedigree has seen him serve rugby at the highest level. His CV includes, among other notable achievements, chairman of the Northern Natal Rugby High School Rugby Sub Union (2012 to present), chairman of the Northern Natal High School sports masters, coach / manager Northern Natal under 19s (2012 and 2013), assistant coach for the Sharks under 18s Cou2017, and of course first team coach for Sarel Cilliers from 2010 to 2020.

Humble as ever, Dave played down his success, saying it was a team effort from the coaches and everyone involved.
But he is strong about his favourite saying:
“Never Surrender”.
