In the Department of Water and Sanitation’s weekly status of dam levels across KwaZulu-Natal, it noted a slight increase this week.
Tshikulumela Fhatuwani of DWS said last week’s figure of 51.6% increased to 52.2% this week – on par with last year’s figure of 52.2%.
“Two dams in the province have improved considerably. Mearns dam soared from 59.5% last week to 101.2% this week and Wagensdrift from 80.9% to 101.1%,” commented Fhatuwani.
At the moment, Newcastle’s Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam is currently at 66.5%, compared to last week’s 65.3%.
