Mayor Mdluli on Friday led the fight against rooting out illegal electricity connections by accompanying electricians to remove cables laid into a tarred road.
He, along with Municipal Manager S Mbhele and workers, were backed up by the SAPS after residents from extension 19 lodged a complaint after seeing a group of men from nearby Kunene Farm digging up the tar to lay cables.
The cables were uprooted and numerous illegal connections removed. Three men, identified by the community as masterminding the illegal connections in the area, were promptly arrested by police.
