Covid-19 continues to have devastating consequences for children and their rights.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit South Africa, 90% of schools around the world had to temporarily close their doors. Never before had so many children been out of school at the same time.

The relaxing of the lockdown rules allowed pupils to go back to school, but they had to adapt to the ‘new normal’ of wearing face masks and sanitizing their hands.

The Grade 7 learners at ML Sultan Primary School recently presented poems on their feelings during the Covid-19 lockdown in an inter-class poetry competition. During the presentations, the pupils were seen pouring their hearts out about the devastating moments they had during the lockdown period, as they were stuck at their homes, meaning they couldn’t see their friends and classmates
