VRYHEID: Moths remember the Battle of El Alamein

On November 15, the Moths will commemorate Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph on the grounds of the St Peter's Anglican Church in High Street

A few members of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) from Vryheid’s Freedom Shellhole held their annual El Alamein Parade on Friday (October 23). This parade is to commemorate the Second Battle of El Alamein, which took place in the western desert of Egypt and is regarded as a turning point in World War II. The battle is named after the Egyptian railway halt near which it began, and took place from October 23 to November 11, 1942. This battle ended the Axis threat to Egypt, the Suez Canal, and the Middle Eastern and Persian oil fields via North Africa. On November 15, the Moths will commemorate Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph on the grounds of the St Peter’s Anglican Church in High Street. (See ‘What’s On’ for more details)
