DUNDEE: Creations still capturing the art scene 34 years on

Grab a few goodies for Christmas from Creations

For 34 years, ‘Creations’ has offered a showcase to local artists and crafters, as well as being a fund-raiser for Talana Museum.

While Covid-19 successfully wrecked the economy, crafters have, of necessity, been busy during lockdown to produce even more stunning pieces – some of which can be viewed and bought at the museum up until November 15.

This year, the collection includes works from 28 exhibitors drawn mostly from Dundee, Utrecht, Newcastle, Elandskraal, Howick and Middelburg.

A number of internationally-important book collections have been entrusted to Talana Museum, with the instruction to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

“We are therefore selling an eclectic selection comprising the Helen Stevens, Lance Siedle and Steve Watt collections at ridiculous prices. So come visit us and grab a few goodies for Christmas from Creations while you’re about it,” said Museum Board chairperson Pat Rundgren.

The official opening of ‘Creations’ took place on Thursday night, October 22, in inclement weather conditions.

Leverne Leyland admires some of the creative pieces on display.

Artist Danie Marais of Utrecht has his usual selection of stunning landscapes, with a painting of Fort Mistake as well – an essential purchase if one has ever had to climb up there…

A good selection of heart-warming wines and sherry was available for the aficionados. In the condiments section, one can buy anything from Jenny’s pickled onions through to jams and rusks and mince pies, although it is recommended not to eat them all at the same time.

There is also a small nursery section which was, unfortunately, attacked by the local goat war party. So come and support your local crafters and buy local for the next couple of weeks.
