NEWCASTLE: SANBS urges residents to ‘Bring a Buddy’ and save lives

If you inspire a new donor to give the gift of life, you will also receive a token of appreciation.

Even if you cannot donate blood, you can still help the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) save lives.

SANBS is launching its ‘Bring a Buddy’ campaign on November 2, during which residents are called on to encourage their friends, family, work colleagues and acquaintances to give the gift of life.

A person accompanying a new donor to the Newcastle Donor Centre at the Newcastle Mall (from November 2 to 30), will receive their own token of appreciation. The donor will also receive their own gift.

Times: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – 9am to 5pm, Tuesday – 9am to 6pm, Saturday – 9am to 3pm.

To meet the requirements of becoming a blood donor, you must be 16 years or older, weigh 50 kilogrammes or more, lead a safe lifestyle and not have any flu-like symptoms.

“Help SANBS avoid a crisis this festive period,” said Donor Relations Practitioner, Shavani Sewpaul.
