VRYHEID: Appeal for more clothing donations

"We have had great support with women's and children's clothing, but it is a serious struggle to get clothes for men" - Nondumiso

The local trio of Lungelo Xaba, Nondumiso and Vusi Dlamini have embarked on a drive to donate clothing to those in need and they call this project ‘Shielded Community’.
Last weekend, they visited a family in eMondlo, where they donated clothes and food. However, they would like to appeal to the community for male clothing, as there is a shortage.
“This is not a new initiative; it was started by Lungelo on his own, but some people would collect those clothes and then sell them. So we joined hands and came up with a strategy that people donate clothes and we take them to those in need.
“We have had great support with women’s and children’s clothing, but it is a serious struggle to get clothes for men.
“Therefore, we would like to appeal to everyone who has clothes they no longer need, especially for men, to contact us. We will come and collect, or they can deliver to us.

“We appreciate the support we have been receiving from the community. Without them, this initiative would not come to life.
“During our visit to families, we come across a lot of dire situations – some needing shelter and others needing more than just clothes. That is why we try our best to at least add a food parcel when we give them clothes, because it doesn’t help to get clothes when your stomach is empty,” said Nondumiso.
They appealed to individuals and businesses to assist in this journey of “shielding each other as a community”.
They would appreciate donations of clothes, food and building material. You can contact Nondumiso on 073-935-4435 or Lungelo on 078-164-4362.

Lungelo, Nondumiso and Vusi aim to “shield the community”.
