ESTCOURT: Suspected drug dealer arrested in Colita

"Police entered the premises and caught him flushing heroin capsules into the toilet"

An assortment of drugs and R10, 000 cash were recovered from a suspected drug dealer during an intelligence driven operation on October 22.

Officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit arrested a 34-year-old man, who police have identified as Sherman Ramchand, as he was leaving his home in Colita to allegedly deliver drugs to his ‘runners’ (people used to deliver drugs).

“Police proceeded to his residence in Colita. He was about to leave his house when he saw the police vehicles and ran back into the house. Police entered the premises and caught him flushing heroin capsules into the toilet,” explained police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

“Police recovered wet heroin capsules, rock cocaine, mandrax tablets, crystal meth and methcathonone. They also recovered R10,000 in cash, which is suspected to be the proceeds of drug trade. The recovered drugs had an estimated street value of more than R90,000,” added Colonel Mbele.

The man was taken to Estcourt police station where he was charged for dealing in drugs and appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on October 23.

“An investigation to check if there are pending drug-related cases against him is continuing,” concluded Colonel Mbele.
