Ladysmith KZN: Residents go without water for 5 days straight

Egerton and Hyde Park suburbs suffer with dry taps

Residents of the Egerton area and Hyde Park have been left without water for over five days in a row, with no end in sight.

Numerous complaints have been made to Councillor Abbas Warasally who, along with the residents, have phoned the uThukela call centre. However, no reasons have been given for the prolonged water outage.

Areas receiving water from Ezakheni have noticed a trend of their water going off at around 5.30pm and coming back on at around 10pm each day.

Also in this instance, no reasons for the shut-off have been given to residents.

Councillor Warasally said that, “It is sad to note that both uThukela and Umgeni Water have failed the community of Ladysmith on numerous occasions, with not a single water tanker being sent to help the people in need.”

Cllr Warasally and the affected community members demand that the Minister intervenes urgently in this “disaster” the town is currently facing.
