ESTCOURT: Child (6) succumbs to injuries after drive-by shooting on Rensburg road

The child, who was shot in her leg, arm and back was the second victim of the brutal shooting

A six-year-old, who was the daughter of the traffic officer who was murdered yesterday (October 19), died from the severe injuries sustained in the drive-by shooting on the Rensburg road.

Police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi confirmed this morning that the child, who was shot in her leg, arm and back was the second victim of the brutal shooting.

The traffic officer (whose name has not been officially released) was traveling along the Rensburg road with three children aged from three to seven-years-old and a relative when the vehicle they were travelling in came under fire at about noon.

The 40-year-old relative was also injured.

Police recovered 28 spent rifle cartridges on scene.

Two cases of murder and three cases of attempted murder are being investigated; anyone with information is urged to call 036-342-9500.
