VRYHEID: Ncome officials excel during training programme

A total of 19 officials graduated after excelling in all the models they were tested on

“Allow me to put my brain into yours without surgery.” These were the words of Ncome Management Area Commissioner Mr AB Gina when he officially welcomed officials from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
“We would like to thank the SANDF for entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with us to assist in addressing the challenges of staff shortages at Correctional Services. A learnership training programme in Correctional Services takes approximately 12 months, but because you guys would have already been exposed to most of the security factors, we were able to complete this training programme in two weeks,” said Gina.
The Area Commissioner encouraged the officials by telling them that the first seed of success has been planted through their appointments and that it was now up to them to nurture and grow the seed. Gina continued by saying, “Don’t underestimate yourselves; the sky is the limit and anything is possible. Ensure that you are always educated and not certificated. Lastly, don’t forget where you come from, because that will ultimately determine where you are going.”
Regional Co-ordinator of Human Resource Development Mrs Moodley requested the newly-appointed officials to stay free of corruption and maladministration. Moodley told the officials to be the architects of their own destinations and that they must always excel in whatever they do. She also emphasised the importance of officials empowering themselves with knowledge and education to enable them to climb the ladder and add value in rehabilitating offenders.
A total of 19 officials graduated after excelling in all the models they were tested on. They will now be divided between the centres to address shortages of staff. Human Resource Development Manager Mr ET Nene said that compressing a 12-month syllabus into two weeks was really a challenge they had to rise above and they did it with flying colours. Nene went on to thank the partnership between the SANDF and Correctional Services; it helps a lot since there are budgetary constraints in government.
He then handed the officials over to the Area Commissioner and certified that they were all ready to perform all the tasks of the department.
