A murder scene has unfolded on the road to Rensburgdrift.
An officer reported to be from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) Midway was killed in a hail of bullets shortly before 1pm today (October 19).
The officer died on scene, while it is believed that one other person he was travelling with was injured.
The deceased officer’s van is riddled with bullets holes.
Dozens of spent cartridges were recovered on scene.
The scene is currently swarming with police, traffic officers and bystanders as the forensics team photographs and collects evidence.
The officer’s name has not been released yet.
