In his remarks the Mayor said they had planned to visit the schools earlier on this year but due to Covid-19 pandemic all programmes were put on hold. “Now that we are on Level 1 we’ve decided to come and do proper hand over. This programme aims to assist needy learners so that they are able to attend school with proper uniform,” the Mayor explained.

He also said that the President emphasised the issue of Covid-19 protocols which include hand sanitization, social distancing and wearing of masks. Mayor Mazibuko explained that all beneficiaries are identified by educators in every school since they are the ones who are better placed to know their situation.

“We request these kind donations from our sponsors so that we can be able to lend a helping hand. We would have loved that everyone benefits from the programme but due to high number of learners it is not always possible. We believe that with this gesture it will have a positive impact on the lives of the learners”, concluded the Mayor.

Ward Cllr Simelane thanked the Mayor for what he had done for the school. He informed the stakeholders that the school is a one stream school which is a worrying factor and he was not happy about that. He went on to say this is one of the reasons the school has a low enrolment rate. He welcomed what the Mayor had done although he said they would have liked if everyone had benefited.
