Ladysmith KZN: Massive trench damages vehicles in Centenary Road

A senior citizen had his car damaged when his sump burst and also one of his tyres

A massive trench in Centenary Road has damaged vehicles, making motorists extremely unhappy.

About two weeks ago, uThukela District Municipality workers were seen fixing a burst water pipe where the entire roadway was dug up.

The team of workers fixed the leak and filled the trench with rubble that was taken out when they were digging.

When heavy rain fell in Ladysmith recently, all the filling in the trench was washed away, making the road a disaster to drive on.

A senior citizen had his car decommissioned, as his sump burst and also one of his tyres. Another driver (female) damaged her vehicle’s rims. Numerous other vehicles were damaged as well.

The next day, the trench was even bigger, with traffic backed up in the roadway – light motor vehicles were not able to pass through at all.

Alfred Duma Local Municipality only acted that Friday afternoon to try and patch up the trench.

Even though the trench has been covered, it was not done properly and is slowly reverting to a terrible state again.

Many motorists are now claiming damages from the municipality for their vehicles.
