Siyabonga (Siya) Ngubane’s story at Weston started before he was born. His mom, Letta Thokozile Dlamini, worked for Weston for 33 years. Mrs Dlamini worked in the Weston dairy, grounds and later in vegetable production.
She loved her job and finally retired in 2014.
According to Siyabonga’s mom, he always dreamed of becoming a teacher or sportsman… and in 2013, after he finished high school at Khandimfundo High School, he joined the maintenance team at Weston.
Here, as a groundsman, he took care of the brush-cutting, ride-on lawnmower and gardens.

In 2015, Siya upgraded his matric and started saving his salary to study teaching through UNISA.
In 2019, he was approached by Weston’s principal, Mr Danny Maharaj, to consider being an intern.
He says he was very happy to accept this opportunity, where he assists with hostel duties, does ‘batting’ for classes, and oversees farm sections (which includes early-morning dairy duty).
Siya started his teaching degree in 2017 and hopes to complete his studies in 2022.
He is an excellent ambassador for Weston and says he enjoys teaching Social Science, Life Orientation and Creative Art.
One day, he would like his son to attend Weston so that he can have the opportunity to study at a school “set in a great environment, with good discipline and academics, where the boys learn respect and a good work ethic”.
Siya credits his single mom for his ambition and says she “played a big part in my life, guiding me and giving me the love I needed”.
The school wishes him all the best in the future, and hopes he has a long and happy teaching career at Weston.
