NEWCASTLE: Police search for suspects in Post Office robbery

The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Newcastle SAPS are searching for suspects after an armed robbery that happened at Taxi City Post Office this morning (October 5), at Taxi City Spar centre.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications, a staff member described the crime:

“The complaint alleged that at around 8am, he was at the post office with his colleagues and went outside to sort out the queue. As he was entering the post office, an African male came up from behind and pushed him inside.”

Arumugam said the suspect produced a firearm and forced the victim to the back of the premises.

“Another African male also entered with a firearm. The suspects then took all three staff members and asked them to open the safe.”

An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen before the suspects fled in a white Toyota Corolla.

Thus far, no arrests have been made and police are currently investigating further.
