Vryheid KZN: Farming community start up their tractors for peaceful protest

A few of the farmers and local businessmen had the opportunity to address municipal management with their grievances before the handover of the memorandum

This morning (September 30), residents in the farming communities of Stilwater, Zaailaagte, Schotchill and Scheepersnek conducted a peaceful protest in tractors, trucks and bakkies to AbaQulusi Local Municipality to hand over a memorandum to Acting Mayor M Maphisa and Municipal Manager B Ntanzi.
The memorandum addresses the inadequate supply of electricity in these areas, which leaves the farming community vulnerable to security threats. Other grievances include interruption of production, as well as interruptions in water supply, which has a great financial impact on an already uncertain economic climate due to Covid-19.
A few of the farmers and local businessmen had the opportunity to address municipal management with their grievances before the handover of the memorandum.
