DUNDEE: Keen to walk among Talana’s ghosts?

ou might hear a pitiful keening sound in the wind. If you do, it’s not the wind rustling through the gum trees.

October 20 is Talana Day and it is also the day the ghosts of the battlefield come out to play. If you do or if you don’t believe in ghosts, come out to Talana Museum on Tuesday, October 20, to see if they do indeed come  out to play…

Although it was freezing cold and raining on the actual day of the battle in 1899, Talana Museum staff say they will do their best to make sure that you don’t have to endure that as well.

After all, authenticity has its limits! As you stumble up the mountain, keep your ears peeled. You might hear a pitiful keening sound in the wind. If you do, it’s not the wind rustling through the gum trees.

You’ll know that Captain George Weldon’s little fox terrier is still lying at his dead master’s side, howling his grief Walk up the hill as the sunset (bring along a walking stick, its rough terrain), strong shoes and a torch.

There will be suitable rations on the hill and a spot of Dutch courage. Meet at Talana Museum, Dundee, by 5pm. Details:  034 212 2654
