NEWCASTLE: Dance challenge lights up CBD

Watch as these residents celebrate Heritage month with the Jerusalema dance challenge.

Answering the call by President Cyril Ramaphosa, Newcastle residents in the central business district came together in the spirit of ubuntu to celebrate life for Heritage month.

Jiving to Master KG’s phenomenal global hit song, Jerusalema, car guards, tertiary education students, shop employees and staff from stores in the area came together as one.

Participants had a wonderful time and said that even during this dark time of Covid-19, it was important to remember and be thankful for their blessings.

“There is joy despite the hard times and we want to show unity. There is always a rainbow after the rain and it’s great that everyone here is involved,” said participant and organiser, Melissa Mayambo (26).

Mayambo added that even though the world was not prepared for Covid-19 it was important to take a moment to count your blessings and celebrate life.

“Just waking up each morning is a blessing. A lot of lives have been lost this year… we need to move forward as a nation and strive for a better life,” she concluded.
