Councillor Callie Carelse has waded in on the controversy of the renovations to Karel Landman Street currently been undertaken via the KZN Transport Department.
The IFP Councillor, who was previously in the Technical Services Department at the former Glencoe Municipality and later served with Endumeni Municipality, said he was ‘appalled that public funds were being used, unnecessarily on the road’. “
Unconfirmed reports said the foundation of the road had failed, hence the need to carry out repairs. If that was the case, why has only the black top being taken off? When a foundation fails, one has to rip up the road right down to the base and start again.” Cllr Carelse said he would like to the results of the geometric density reports regarding the state of the road.
“If you look at the state of the surface of Victoria Street, from Willson Street towards the Museum, you will see it is very bumpy and dangerous. This is also a provincial route and should be attended to rather than waste money on what they are doing now.”
The KZN Transport has failed to answer questions regarding why Karelandman Street, from Grey Street to Majuba College is being worked on.
