ESTCOURT: Domestic helper badly beaten by armed robbers during home invasion

A domestic helper is recovering from severe injuries after an armed robbery in Estcourt on September 9.

According to Estcourt police, the 34-year-old woman accompanied a five-year-old out to the front gate at about 7am to wait for the child’s transport to school.

When the woman returned to the house, a terrifying ordeal awaited her. Two men with firearms overpowered her and forced her inside the home.

Once she was inside, the suspects allegedly kicked and slapped the woman before restraining her with an extension cord.

“The suspects demanded to be shown the room belonging to the homeowner. They managed to open the room and stole cash. They also took car keys and went to open the garage, but ran away,” said Uthukela District police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

A case of house robbery is being investigated by Estcourt police, who are appealing to the public for any information that could shed light on this case.

“Call 08600-10111 toll-free or use the ‘My SAPS’ App if you believe you can assist the police in arresting the suspects, who are still on the run,” added Captain Nyathi.
