DUNDEE: ATM scammers are also back from lockdown

'Do not be fooled by those wishing to assist you at the ATM'

While ATM fraud seemed to take a break during the strict lockdown regulations, cases are again on the rise.

A56-year-old man went to withdraw money from the Standard Bank ATM last Monday, using his Nedbank card.

After inserting his card in the machine, the screen went blank. A man he did not know offered to help and told him to punch in his secret pin to block the card.

The victim then went to Nedbank to apply for a new card and little while later received a SMS informing him that R820 had been withdrawn from his account.

SAPS are investigating a case of fraud.

“Again we warn the public not to let anyone but the bank security guard to assist them should they have problems with an ATM. Conmen use every opportunity to cheat innocent people out of their money,” said Capt Buthelezi, Dundee District SAPS Communication Officer.
