NEWCASTLE ADVERTISER: Procession to Normandien stretches across many kilometres

The procession continued up to the gates of Hanover farm, where residents left flowers, posters, crosses and other tokens of respect.

Trucks, tractors, trucks, bakkies, vans, sedans, scooters, motorcycles, helicopters and airplanes – vehicles of almost every description formed part of the Move ONE Million group’s procession deep into Normandien today (September 5).

Residents, in their various vehicles, assembled at the Trim Park from mid-morning and set out at 11.30am, following a route through the CBD before heading out onto the Normandien road. Just after the Horn River bridge, hundreds of symbolic wooden crosses had been erected along the route by volunteers.

Almost halfway to Hanover, the farm where Glen and Vida Rafferty were murdered, an enormous banner was strung above the road: ‘President Ramaphosa, how many more must die???’ Organisers said farm attacks were not about politics but rather good versus evil, calling their efforts a movement for social change.

The procession continued up to the gates of the farm, where residents left flowers, posters, crosses and other tokens of respect.
