Vryheid KZN: Teachers exposed to high-tech world of learning at virtual iPad summit

Being virtual proved to have many pros, as not only could people from all over the world attend, but they were also able to organise guest speakers from the UK and various other countries

The teachers at Michaelis Private School had the privilege of attending the seventh annual iPad Summit, hosted by Think Ahead, in July. As Covid-19 has prevented us from attending summits or gatherings of any nature, this year’s summit was a virtual one. Being virtual proved to have many pros, as not only could people from all over the world attend, but they were also able to organise guest speakers from the UK and various other countries. Almost 300 delegates attended the summit from 54 different schools worldwide. The speakers consisted of a group of 19 very competent and inspirational people. We were reminded that creating a number of ‘door handles’ at the moment of learning increases the accessibility to the information at hand. Various breakaway sessions were available, from Augmented Reality and maximising remote learning to iMovie and the wonderful world of wormholes. By using this amazing tech world as a tool in the classroom, we are able to prepare our children for the future by enriching their creativity, complex problem-solving skills and critical thinking. We would like to congratulate and thank Think Ahead on this fantastic and well-organised summit. We will most certainly be back in 2021!
