NEWCASTLE ADVERTISER: Normandien farm murders – mass procession plans changed [WATCH]

A message currently circulating on social networks indicates the procession may still take place from the Trim Park at 11am.

Organisers of the planned vehicular procession, scheduled to begin at the Show Grounds and continue to Normandien in protest against farm attacks, have been forced to alter plans.

Member of the organising committee, Johan Pieters explained the local Move ONE Million group had applied for permits so they would have the necessary permissions to proceed, but due to additional regulations resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, these permits were not received in time.

“This means we can’t go ahead with the procession in the way we wanted,” he explained.

With the funeral plans for Glen and Vida Rafferty taking place earlier in the morning, plans to gather at the Show Grounds tomorrow will not go ahead. Instead, residents have been urged to pay their respects ‘at their own risk and leisure’.

Residents are invited to lay flowers, tie ribbons and/or leave cards at the farm gate. They should wear black and white to show their solidarity and are welcome to display banners and flags, but should still follow Covid-19 regulations and the rules of the road.

“It is sad [to have to change plans] but we can’t go against the law. People can still go out on their own however.”

A message currently circulating on social networks indicates the procession may still take place from the Trim Park at 11am, following a route along Hardwick Street into Lennoxton and then into Normandien. The message also states a main focus point is 25km out on the Normandien road and the other is at the entrance to Hanover Farm.

“We appeal to you to remain in your vehicles, tractors, trucks and machines. The procession will keep moving and return via the circular route past Horseshoe Farm back to Newcastle.”
