Spawning carp taken out of Klip River by the hundreds

The fish had rounded bellies due to them carrying eggs

LADYSMITH KZN: Massive carp were seen spawning in the Klip River near the old steel bridge this morning (September 2).

A few people were initially seen on the banks of the Klip River, trying to see what was going on.

And before you knew it, people were flocking to the area in their numbers and going after the fish.

Locals braved the icy and dangerous waters to get their hands on the carp, that were in the shallow water near the bridge. The fish were being plucked out of the water in their numbers.

The carp ranged in size all the way up to over 10kg, with their rounded bellies due to them carrying eggs.

People used every way possible to get the fish out of the river – using sticks, buckets, nets and even their own hands – and were seen walking away from the river with massive fish on their backs, in buckets and plastic bags.
