SAPS raids result in seizure of firearms, dagga

SAPS pounced in Ezakheni where they apprehended a man trying to flee the scene after SAPS had received information of illegal firearms being stored in a house.

A search was conducted and he was found in possession of two rifles and two rounds of ammunition. An army jacket was seized from the suspect. A 24-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He appeared before the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today.

In another multi-disciplinary SAPS operation conducted yesterday, until the early hours of this morning at Ezinqoleni (South Coast), two suspects were nabbed after they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The team went to a house in KwaNyuswa area in Ezinqoleni where a search was conducted.

Upon searching the house; a revolver, 9mm pistol with 89 rounds of ammunition was found from the suspect. Two bags full of dagga was also confiscated. A 62-year-old man was then placed under arrest.

The team proceeded to another homestead where a 59-year-old man was found in possession of a shotgun with eight rounds of ammunition. The suspect was also found in possession of slopes of dagga. He was then placed under arrest. The estimated value of the recovered dagga is R50 000. Both suspects appeared today before the Ezingolweni Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and possession of dagga. The matter was remanded to November 30.

“I am pleased with recent recovery of the unlicensed firearms and the arrest of the suspects. These operations will continue in all parts of the province to eliminate the proliferation of illegal firearms,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
