Memorial service to honour the late Constable Sikhakhane

She served in the SAPS since 2013

A memorial service honouring the late Constable Thandekile Promise Sikhakhane (35) was held at her home in KwaGxobagxoba, Peacetown, today (August 24). She was laid to rest yesterday.

Const Sikhakhane is described as a dedicated policewoman who worked tirelessly to serve her community.

The Ezakheni Station Commander, Colonel Mkhize, said that Const Sikhakhane considered her job to be a ‘calling’ and excelled in everything she did.

“Const Sikhakhane joined the police force in 2013. She served as a field training officer and also in the Crime Prevention Unit. She was a unique policewoman who was humble and dedicated, and also went above and beyond her job description. We have lost a dear member, not only at Ezakheni police station; the whole of the SAPS has lost a very dedicated member,” said Col Mkhize.

Const Sikhakhane (35) was gunned down in Thembalethu Road, Ezakheni B-Section, on Tuesday evening (August 18). She was on her way to work, dressed in full police uniform, when she offered a lift to two women. While approaching the home of one of the women, her car came under fire from unknown suspects, who robbed and killed her.

The memorial service was attended by Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Vincent Madlala, uThukela District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko, Brigadier Bantham (Uthukela Acting Cluster Commander), Colonel Mkhize (Ezakheni Station Commander), Brigadier Kunene, Dr Zulu from the Department of Health, as well as fellow police officers.
