The mathematics of the humble pizza – Mathematics Lesson 5

This week’s lesson includes a review and and solutions from Lesson 4.

This week’s maths lesson, courtesy of former educator Henry Junak, delves into breaking numbers into prime factors. Junak uses the example of a pizza to talk about the rules of divisibility in prime numbers and prime factors:

“I am sure many of you have shared a pizza with friends or family at some time in your life. Usually the pizza is cut into 8 equal pieces. Have you ever tried to share it equally among 3 or 5 or 6 or even 7 people, without cutting it further? Why do you think this is so?” asked Junak.
