Suspect nabbed with rifle and ammunition

The suspect has appeared in the Colenso Magistrate's Court for a bail application

Following up on a tip-off that a suspect was harbouring illegal firearms and ammunition, police swooped on a house in the early hours of Monday morning (August 17). It was about 3am when the officers arrived at the suspect’s home in the Lindelani area of Weenen and carried out a search.

The search turned up a .303 rifle, 31 live rounds of ammunition and one .303 magazine. Police immediately arrested a 49-year-old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspect has since appeared in the Colenso Magistrate’s Court for a bail application.

“I’m very happy to see our officers doing such good work. I appreciate all those who were involved in this operation; they made us proud,” said Brigadier Bantham (Acting Uthukela District Commander).
