WATCH: Health Minister inspects designated Covid-19 hospital in Utrecht

Developers have promised Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize that Niemeyer Memorial Hospital will be ready to operate soon.

Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize has arrived at the Niemeyer Memorial Hospital in Utrecht.

He’s doing a walkabout to ascertain the readiness of the facility as a designated Covid-19 hospital.

He is accompanied by KZN Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu and District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane.

Niemeyer Memorial Hospital was supposed to have been ready by end of July, but Newcastle Advertiser journalists at the scene have reported that construction is still taking place.

According to reporters, the reason for the delay in construction has yet to be determined.

However, developers have promised Dr Mkhize that the facility will be complete on August 17, saying the hospital would be ready to admit its first Covid patient on August 18.
