Evicted family turn for help

The Courier office contacted the family for feedback and was told that they would be receiving assistance from the departments concerned.

Busisiwe Sibisi and her family say they still do not know why they were evicted from their home in Sibongile in January this year.
Mrs Sibisi, who had lived in the house in Ward 5 since 1998, said she and her family of about six “just received a notice and have been living in a shack ever since”.

She and the family came to the Courier office to seek assistance and were immediately put in touch with the Department of Social Welfare and the Endumeni Disaster Management Department.

It is thought that the family were asked to vacate their home to make way for the new RDP houses that are to be built, but this could not be confirmed.

Miss PB Dhlamini, operational manager at Social Development, was helpful and said she will look into the matter.

She added that she would be contacting the family to assist them going through the right channels to apply for a State grant to help them back on their feet. Phumalani Ntombela of Disaster Management said the family’s request for assistance would be assessed.

The Courier office contacted the family for feedback and was told that they would be receiving assistance from the departments concerned.
The family would like to thank the Courier office for their help. Should anyone be able to assist the family further, please call Cynthia Buthelezi on 064 881 6311.
