Another snaking queue formed up in front of the Post Office before sunrise this morning and by 8am the line was past the old Courthouse on Gladstone Street.

The queue is to claim Government grants including the R350 temporary relief scheme for the jobless which will continue until October.

SAPS officers complained this morning that the queue was making it difficult to access their premises.

While most in the queue are wearing masks, social distancing appears not to have been properly implemented.

Approved beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant can change their payment method by visiting www.srd.sassa.gov.za fromAugust 3-9.

“It is important for beneficiaries to understand that they should not go to the Post Office before they have received the SMS notification that says funds are available. The SMS notification is used to limit the numbers of people reporting to a Post Office on a particular day and also to ensure that sufficient cash is available,” SASSA said.

SASSA  spokesperson Nandi Mosia said:

“Older persons grants will be paid from August 3 followed by the disability grant on August 4.

“Old age grant beneficiaries receiving a child support grant and foster child grant will also be able to access the linked children grants on the same day. All other children’s grants will be paid from August 6.”
