Busted for dealing in dagga

A thorough search was conducted and the tip-off proved positive

A 30-year-old man from Hlathikhulu in Ntabamhlophe is facing charges of dealing in dagga after police seized over 100 kilograms of dagga from his homestead on Tuesday (July 21).

Acting on information that dagga was being sold from a homestead; Ntabamhlophe police banded with the National Public Order Police Reserve Task Team Unit and proceeded to the area.

A thorough search was conducted and the tip-off proved positive.

“Police seized two drums containing 100kg of dagga and a plastic bag containing 30kg dagga. The estimated street value of the recovered dagga is R50, 000,” commented police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

Buyani Mbatha was arrested and charged. He appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s on Friday (July 24) and was released on R1, 000 bail. The matter was remanded to July 28.

The Provincial Commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the latest arrest of a drug dealer in the province.
