Officers recover 90 packets of illicit cigarettes

Police continue to crack down on crime.

During a joint intelligence operation in the Osizweni Policing Area on July 18, police officials confiscated 90 packets of RG cigarettes from a home in Section C.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Newcastle Corporate Communications, members from the Newcastle Cluster Task Team worked with Osizweni Crime Prevention and Osizweni Reservists to focus on crime in the area.

“One suspect was arrested for selling tobacco products in contravention of the Disaster Management Act of 2020,” confirmed Arumugam.

From there, officers proceeded to the Mndozo area at Sibiya Stand where one suspect was arrested for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle with an FS registration plate.

Later that afternoon, officials arrested one suspect for being in possession of Mandrax tablets.

“Members raided a house at the Cavan area at Zulu Stand and recovered four full Mandrax tablets and one quarter Mandrax tablet,” concluded Arumugam.
