Illegal dumping hotspot is thriving

“I don’t think that people will ever stop dumping here..."

Situated on the periphery, Ninth Avenue in Forderville has always been a hotspot for illegal dumping. At times, the waste that is dumped on the open field, encroaches on the road surfaces, making it impossible for two vehicles to pass at the same time.

The illegal dumping has begun to pile up again in this area with a large concentration of building rubble and domestic waste.

A resident from the area that spoke on condition of anonymity said that he has seen residents from ‘other streets’ dumping waste in Ninth Avenue.

“We see people bringing dirt in wheelbarrows and dumping it here. Some people even bring their waste in vans. They don’t care about the people who live in this area and what we have to look at every day,” said the resident.

He says that attempts to caution the people dumping against this practice often leads to aggressive behaviour.

“I don’t think that people will ever stop dumping here. There is a waste skip there,” he points to the waste skip just meters away, “but no one puts dirt inside, all the mess is lying around it. The people don’t care,” he says.
