Two suspects aged 30 and 33 years old were arrested by police in Helpmekaar Road with a powerful handgun in their possession.
According to Ladysmith SAPS spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, last week Sunday (July 12) at about 11.30am, Ezakheni police officers were conducting a ‘stop and search’ operation in Helpmekaar Road near the Waaihoek intersection when they stopped a Toyota Hilux bakkie with two males inside.
A Taurus .357 Magnum revolver with five live rounds of ammunition was found inside the bakkie.
The firearm did not legally belong to either of the men in the vehicle.

“The two suspects were immediately arrested,” concluded Captain Nyathi.
