Several drug dealers taken down by local law enforcement

The estimated street value for all the drugs confiscated was approximately R30 000.

Five suspects have been arrested after an intelligence driven operation was conducted on July 15, focusing on drug cases in the Osizweni Policing area.

The operation combined the efforts of Osizweni Crime Prevention members, Osizweni Reservist members and the Newcastle Cluster Task Team.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Newcastle Corporate Communications, the operation began at a house in Section E, where officials recovered 110 pokes of dagga, which weighed 11,69 kg. One suspect was arrested.

“In another house in the Mafahlawane area, members recovered 108 pokes of dagga weighing 3,78kg, and dry loose dagga in two plastic bags. One suspect was arrested for possession of dagga,” confirmed Arumugam.

Another suspect was arrested for being in possession of cocaine and woonga in Section A, where members recovered 10 small parcels of woonga drugs in small plastic bags.

“Intelligence members then proceeded to Section A, close to the Top Rank, where one suspect was arrested for the possession of cocaine and woonga. Seven small parcels of woonga drugs in small plastic bags were recovered.”

Close to the Kwamakhanya Garage in Osizweni, one suspect was arrested for the possession of Mandrax tablets.

“The five suspects are aged between 22 and 42 and have appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court. The estimated street value for all the drugs recovered was approximately R30 000,” concluded Arumugam.
