How will you be marking Mandela Day?

How will you be celebrating a lockdown affected Mandela Day?

Celebrated every July 18, on former State President, Nelson Mandela’s birthday, Mandela Day encourages people to spend 67 minutes helping those less fortunate than themselves.

Mandela was famous for saying ‘A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones.’ With that in mind, Mandela Day was created to motivate the public to get more involved in charitable activities.’

However, with the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc across the country, many Mandela Day plans have had to be put on hold due to lockdown regulations. That doesn’t mean though that you can’t mark the day in some way.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to think about those less fortunate.

So while you may not be able to spend 67 Minutes for Mandela, you can still do a kind deed for someone, either by checking up on them or donating food or essentials towards someone in need or even by buying hyper-local and supporting someone who relies on sales to survive.

However you spend Mandela Day, do it safely and share with us your experience.
