Child Welfare pays tribute to Heather

And please remember Tekkie Tax on July 31; you can purchase your R10 sticker at their office

It is with great sadness that Child Welfare Vryheid has to say goodbye to their beloved chairperson, Heather Gibbons. Due to health reasons, she has to step down, but will still be part of Child Welfare in assisting the committee with her knowledge and guidance. She joined Child Welfare in 2002 and became chairperson in 2013, heading many projects. The Mooiplaas Créche in Lakeside is a project very close to Heather’s heart, as she managed to erect new classrooms and water tanks, and supply the children with school shirts. This, Heather managed to accomplish with the assistance of her family, Wayne and Leanne Bissett and Beverley Baxter. She organised annual Christmas gifts for the children who attended the school, sponsored by the St Thomas Moore School in Durban. Heather knitted blankets and encouraged others to volunteer to knit as well, while she also organised financial assistance for a child-headed household. Heather is the heart of Child Welfare, organising and being personally involved in fund-raisers, golf days and flea markets. Her valuable input is highly regarded, as well as her empathy towards those in need. Her friendship and guidance will always be part of Child Welfare.

The organisation is currently taking strain, since many of their projects could not be realised because of the national lockdown. They are open and residents are welcome to browse through their bargain bin for those little treasures. Any donations of children’s winter clothing and blankets are welcome. And please remember Tekkie Tax on July 31; you can purchase your R10 sticker at their office.
