[CRIME]: Police arrest more suspects for the illicit sale of liquor

Eleven suspects have been arrested for selling liquor.

Local police continue to crack down on contraventions to the Disaster Management Act of 2020.

An intelligence-driven operation on July 11 led officials to the Mndozo area of Osizweni where 30 quarts of beer was recovered and one male suspect was consequently arrested for selling liquor.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications, the team then proceeded to Section A.

“Members recovered 24 full Mandrax tablets at a home in the area, along with 95 small parcels of woonga in small plastic bags and five live rounds of ammunition for a 9mm pistol,” confirmed Arumugam.

She said one suspect was arrested for being in possession of drugs and illegal ammunition.

“The estimated value of the confiscated alcohol was approximately R1 030. The intelligence-driven operations have yielded positive results, with 11 suspects (aged between 24 and 39) arrested for selling liquor.”

Arumugam confirmed all suspects have since appeared in court.
