Fanned by strong winds, a fierce veld fire raged through thick, dry grass outside Glencoe last night. The fire appeared to spread from behind the Glencoe Prison area to the Sunset Rest road.
There was also a blaze in the vicinity of the Donald McHardy dam, Glencoe residents said. Volunteers rushed to try and prevent the fire from spreading but their efforts were hampered by the strong wind.
