More Newcastle schools have closed after identifying positive Covid-19 cases

Classes at the following schools have been suspended with immediate effect.

Panorama Combined School reported its first Covid-19 cases on July 13, in a letter to parents from the school’s Principal, Mr TR Mthethwa.

“It has been confirmed that five of our educators and one of our Grade 11 learner, have tested positive for Covid-19. I have been in contact with the Department of Health and the Department of Education, to ensure all safety and health protocols are followed. All educators who were in close contact with all the positive cases underwent testing over the weekend and the mobile clinic also visited the school today to carry out tests on all other affected educators,” read the letter.

Classes at the school have been suspended with immediate effect, while the school undergoes deep cleaning and it is anticipated lessons will resume on July 20.

Busy Bee Primary School has also reported its first positive Covid-19 case on July 13.

According to a letter received by parents, the school will be closed until July 15 for disinfection and decontamination. Classes are expected to resume on July 16, unless otherwise stated.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Heights Secondary School also reported its second positive Covid-19 case at the school.

“Please note that an educator at our school has tested positive for Covid-19. The educator was teaching certain Grade 11 classes but all safety protocols were observed, in terms of distancing, wearing a mask and the disinfection of the classrooms that the educator used,” read a letter to parents.

Parents have been advised that should a child show any symptoms of Covid-19, immediate medical attention should be sought.

Classes at the school were suspended with immediate effect for the school to undergo deep cleaning. Learning will resume on July 16.

Newcastle Senior Primary School (NSPS) was also rumoured to have a positive Covid-19 case, after a message circulated on social media. The school’s Principal, Mr Spies said the school only had a coronovirus case on July 6.

“We were then closed on July 7, 8 and 9 to allow for the process of deep cleaning the school. On July 10, classes resumed with Grades 6 and 7 reporting back at school. We currently have no new cases,” confirmed Mr Spies.
