An armed suspect was fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police in the Amangwe area on Sunday, July 5.
According to police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, at about 6.30pm, Amangwe SAPS and Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT) members received a tip-off from the community that four armed suspects had been spotted in the Amangwe area.
On arrival, the officers were ambushed and shot at by the four suspects. The police drew their firearms and retaliated. One suspect was later found dead after being fatally wounded in the shoot-out.

A police-issue firearm with SAPS emblem was found in the suspect’s possession, along with 11 9mm and six R5 live rounds of ammunition. Police also picked up 36 9mm cartridges and several R5 cartridges at the scene.
