Braai fires are roaring again for Mr Wors

The aromatic smell of sizzling wors is again in the air in Grey Street after ‘Mr Wors’ (Neels van Niekerk) was given the green light to go ahead and start up his pavement fire.

Like many other street vendors, Neels was hard-hit by the March 27 lockdown. For the past four years, he and his wife Riana have been familiar figures in their gazebo on the corner of Grey and Karellandman Street.

But they had to pack up and for over a month, had to make do without earning an income. “It was very difficult, but we got by, for which we are very grateful,” said Neels.

Now that the fire is roaring again and the wors is braaing, Neels and Riana are happy to serve customers and have a chat.

They say that small businesses should stand together and support each other in these hard times. For any orders, call 079-497-5506.
