Pregnant woman brutally murdered in farm attack in Weenen, KZN

Nothing was taken from the house by the suspects

The Weenen community is mourning the death of a 26-year-old pregnant woman who was brutally murdered in a home invasion in Weenen on Saturday (July 4).

The woman was found in the bathroom with her throat slit after her family was attacked by three unknown suspects on a farm located in Weenen.

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, at about 7pm on Saturday evening, three suspects entered the house. The occupants were held at knife-point and the robbers demanded cash.

“They allegedly fought with the husband while they took the kids into one of the rooms, and the wife was taken to the bathroom. The 26-year-old woman was found inside the bathroom with her throat slit. She was certified dead at the scene. Nothing was taken from the house,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala.

Captain Gwala added that Weenen police are currently investigating a case of murder and the matter is receiving immediate attention.

This follows another farm attack that happened in Colenso on Wednesday, July 1. The farmer was attacked by five suspects armed with a firearm. Four of the suspects, aged between 18 and 36, were later arrested and are set to appear in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court for a bail application.
