R33 protests – Parents protest overcrowding in schools
The protests have been linked to overcrowding at a nearby school
Angry community members blocked off the road between Dundee and Helpmekaar (the R33) this morning, protesting issues at the nearby Morningside School.
Community members allege that the school already has too many students and are concerned that once the other grades return next week, the school will not be able to enforce social distancing between learners.
Community members say they have previously asked for mobile classrooms to be installed at the school, but have not received any joy from the Department as yet.
Mayor Mdluli did go out to the scene and Speaker Lucky Khumalo said there had been discussions with the Education Department.
